Fans are convinced that Megan Thee Stallion might have just thrown some subtle shade Nicki Minaj’s way after the Met Gala, and it all involves a certain yellow porous cartoon character. You know I had to dive into this potential rap royalty rumble!
The claws are out, or should we say, the memes are out?!
Both Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj, who have a history of icy relations, graced the Met Gala carpet this year. But it was what happened after the glitz and glamour that had the Barbz buzzing. A post went viral, seemingly showing a side-by-side of Nicki’s Met Gala look and a certain SpongeBob SquarePants striking a very similar pose, with the SpongeBob image allegedly posted on Megan’s Instagram story. Starting a potential “Who wore it better?” moment in the animated edition.
This, of course, sent Nicki’s fans into a frenzy, with many claiming Megan was deliberately taking a dig at the “Anaconda” rapper. One X (formerly Twitter) user even went as far as to say, “This proves that Megan is obsessed.” Ouch! However, Megan’s supporters quickly jumped to her defense, suggesting she might have shared the SpongeBob meme to call out those who were mocking her own Met Gala outfit.
It’s the classic case of shade interpretation.
Now, here’s the tea: there’s no actual confirmation that Megan Thee Stallion directed that post to Nicki, even though she did post that SpongeBob story. So, as of now, Barbz’s accusations seem to be based on speculation. But let’s be real, the history between these two definitely adds fuel to the fire.

Their feud first grabbed headlines back in 2021 when things got tense on social media, reportedly starting with Nicki unfollowing Megan on Instagram. Fast forward to 2024, and the beef escalated with Megan’s diss track “Hiss,” which took aim at Nicki and her husband. Never one to back down, Nicki fired back with her own diss track, “Big Foot.”
It’s wild to think that these two were once collaborators, even dropping the banger “Hot Girl Summer” back in 2019! Talk about a friendship turned sour. So, while we can’t definitively say if Megan’s alleged SpongeBob post was a deliberate troll, the history between these two queens of rap definitely makes it a juicy theory.
We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for any official response. It seems this rap feud might just be heating up again!
