Former MSNBC president Rashida Jones has been appointed chief executive officer of the media company behind Piers Morgan’s digital platform, Uncensored, marking a significant leadership shift for the growing media venture.

The announcement comes roughly a year after Jones stepped down from her role leading MSNBC, where she served as president from 2020 to 2025 during a period of expansion in digital programming and shifting ownership structures.

Expanding the Uncensored Platform

As CEO, Jones will oversee the company’s efforts to broaden its reach, develop new content verticals, and recruit emerging media talent as the company aims to build a larger digital media network.

“Piers developed an incredible platform with Uncensored that’s already going head-to-head with legacy media,” Jones said in a statement announcing her appointment.

“In today’s fragmented media world, audiences are craving real conversations grounded in authenticity, rigor, and open debate. Uncensored not only delivers that—it’s ahead of the curve.”

Morgan launched the platform as a digital-first media brand centered around his flagship program, Piers Morgan Uncensored. The company has since expanded its programming lineup to include additional shows such as History Uncensored, hosted by former CNN anchor Bianca Nobilo.

Strategic Growth and Investment

Jones’ appointment coincides with new investment agreements involving firms including Raine Ventures and Antenna Group, along with other backers such as the Reuben Brothers.

The company also recently secured a licensing agreement with Channel 5 to air Piers Morgan Uncensored on broadcast television in the United Kingdom, part of a broader push to expand beyond digital streaming.

Executives say the long-term goal is to transform Uncensored into a “multi-genre, talent-driven digital network.”

Jones’ Media Leadership Background

Jones became the first Black woman to lead a major cable news network when she took over MSNBC in 2020. During her tenure, she helped expand the network’s digital footprint and experimented with hybrid programming that aired on both television and online platforms.

She stepped down in early 2025 as MSNBC prepared to separate from its parent company, Comcast.

After leaving the network, Jones launched her own advisory firm, Imagine Strategies, where she has consulted for media, sports, and technology companies on mergers, acquisitions, and content development.

She has also been named a fellow at the Knight Center for the Future of News at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

A New Direction for the Company

Industry observers say Jones’ background in both traditional broadcast news and digital media strategy could help accelerate Uncensored’s ambitions to compete with established media brands while expanding into new programming categories.

Her appointment also represents a notable collaboration between two media figures who have previously operated in very different segments of the news and commentary landscape.

With new investment and leadership in place, the company appears poised to continue expanding its content portfolio and distribution partnerships in the evolving digital media environment.
