A manhunt (or “womanhunt,” rather) is currently underway for a mother who has been accused of attacking her 12-year-old with an umbrella last year.

The Houston Police Department is requesting that the public help them find Twywna Sheledia Able, who is wanted for causing injury to a child under 15 with bodily injury.

According to the department, police discovered that Able had hit her child in the head after responding to a call in the 12500 block of S. Coast Drive in Houston.

The abuse caused injuries to the child’s ear, police documents show.

The Houston Police Department says Able can be identified as a Black, 42-year-old woman, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, 170 pounds, with brown eyes and short green and yellow or blonde hair.

“Authorities urge you to contact Crime Stoppers of Houston directly if you have any information related to this investigation,” reads an ABC13 report. “Crime Stoppers may pay up to $5,000 for information leading to the charging and/or arrest of the suspect in this case. Information may be reported by calling 713-222-TIPS (8477), submitted online at www.crime-stoppers.org or through the Crime Stoppers mobile app.” Anyone with leads into the finding of Able can report information anonymously.

This story is developing.

According to data from the National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS), “51 States reported a total of 1,809 fatalities due to child neglect or abuse.

Furthermore, “child fatalities in 2019 involved children younger than three years, and children younger than one year accounted for 45.4 percent of all fatalities. Young children are the most vulnerable for many reasons, including their dependency, small size, and inability to defend themselves.”
