Gayle King has a new admiration for Cardi B — and she’s not shy about it.
The veteran journalist was spotted in New York City on Thursday, the morning after Cardi B announced on CBS Mornings that she is expecting her fourth child. King, who conducted the sit-down interview with the rapper, described herself as having a “girl crush” on Cardi, praising her ability to balance motherhood with her flourishing career.
“People should never underestimate her,” King said, noting that the Grammy-winning artist is juggling the rollout of her new album Am I The Drama? while preparing to welcome another baby. “She knows what she’s doing.”
The news of Cardi’s pregnancy had been the subject of widespread speculation in recent weeks, fueled by her choice of baggy outfits and a swirl of online chatter. But King defended the star’s decision to keep the announcement private until she was ready. “She wanted to tell her story on her own time,” King said. “And that’s exactly how it should be.”
The new arrival will mark Cardi’s first child with NFL player Stefon Diggs. The rapper shares three children — daughters Kulture and Blossom and son Wave — with her estranged husband, Offset, from whom she is navigating a contentious divorce.
During her conversation with King, Cardi said she currently is not co-parenting with Offset and suggested lingering hostility from her ex. “I think he has some type of hate in his heart right now,” she said, while clarifying she holds no ill will toward him.
Instead, Cardi is choosing to focus on her future with Diggs, calling their relationship a source of joy. She said both are excited about building a family together and welcoming their child.
Meanwhile, Am I The Drama? dropped on Friday to strong fan anticipation. Cardi plans to take the album on tour in February 2026, after giving birth.
