“With great sadness, I must inform you all that our beloved friend, mentor, and daughter Hydeia, passed away today after living with AIDS since birth,” wrote Loren Broadbent. “Despite facing numerous challenges throughout her life, Hydeia remained determined to spread hope and positivity through education around HIV/AIDS.”

Broadbent’s journey began when she was abandoned as a baby due to her mother’s drug addiction. She was adopted and diagnosed with HIV/AIDS at the age of 3, during a time when little was known about pediatric AIDS.

Despite the grim prognosis, Broadbent defied the odds and became a beacon of inspiration for countless individuals around the world.

In 1996, Broadbent gained national attention when she appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and shared her story with the world.
