Issa Rae, celebrated writer, actress, and producer, will be honored with the Pandora Leader of Change award at the 2024 British Fashion Awards on Dec. 2 at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall.
The announcement, made by the British Fashion Council (BFC), cements Rae’s status as a trailblazer in art, culture, and social advocacy.
A Leader of Change in Every Sense
The Pandora Leader of Change award recognizes individuals who drive representation and innovation across art and culture.
Rae, 39, becomes only the second recipient of the prestigious honor, following Michaela Coel, who received the inaugural award in 2023.
Rae’s former Insecure co-star Yvonne Orji will present the award during the star-studded event, which also serves as the BFC’s primary fundraiser to support emerging talent.
“We are thrilled to honor Issa Rae with the Pandora Leader of Change Award,” said Caroline Rush, Chief Executive of the BFC, in a statement. “Her work has inspired and resonated with people all over the globe. She consistently uses her platform to spotlight the lack of diversity in Hollywood and call for greater representation, including people of color behind the scenes.”
Recognized for Advocacy and Representation
Rae’s contributions extend far beyond her on-screen success. Known for her groundbreaking work in series like Insecure, she has championed civil rights and women’s rights, creating opportunities for underrepresented voices in Hollywood.
Berta de Pablos-Barbier, Pandora’s Chief Marketing Officer, praised Rae’s commitment to uplifting others:
“Her passion and purpose align beautifully with our values at Pandora. Issa’s dedication to meaningful change and her love for community shine through in every multidimensional character she brings to life. We are so proud to honor her.”
A Night of Celebration
The 2024 British Fashion Awards, hosted by the BFC, will celebrate leaders across fashion, art, and culture. Rae’s recognition highlights her influence in breaking barriers and opening doors for marginalized communities.
The event will honor Rae’s multidimensional contributions to the arts and her tireless advocacy for equity and representation, affirming her role as a true leader of change.
