Joy Taylor is dropping truth bombs! The outspoken sports anchor recently revealed that when it comes to potential partners, “men of God” are a definite no-go zone for her. The strong stance boils down to some past relationship trauma she experienced with religiously inclined men.
The 38-year-old didn’t hold back during a recent appearance on Paul Pierce and Azar Farideh’s podcast, “The Truth After Dark.” 1 While chatting about her dating preferences (which include being open to dating men as young as 25), the topic of religion came up.
Joy made it crystal clear that if a man leads with his faith, it’s a major red flag for her.
Before anyone jumps to conclusions, Joy clarified her spiritual background. She identifies as a “person of faith” and was raised in the Baptist church. However, she draws a clear line between personal faith and being overly “religious,” especially when it comes to dating.
“I don’t think that just because you’re a Christian, you are not living a good life,” she explained. “I’m just saying, if that’s the first thing that you bring to the table, it’s a red flag for me. Not saying that if you believe in God, you’re a red flag. I also don’t give a f**k, so tell somebody else about it.”
Paul Pierce then chimed in, sharing how religion helped him through some tough times. But Joy was quick to differentiate between “religion” and “faith.”
“To me, those are two different things,” she offered. “Believing in God, having spirituality, having a connection with your spiritual side, praying, all those things I do. But to lead with, like, ‘let’s go to church on Sunday?'” she added, putting her hand up as if to say, “Stop right there!”
