Shandrena Hadjamara and Marlena Barnett, both seasoned real estate developers and investors, are on a mission to pave the way for one of the first Black and woman-owned resort communities in Georgia.
Their ambitious project, named “Lakes of Summerville,” is set to occupy over 128 acres of pristine land just 90 miles north of Atlanta.
The resort aims to revolutionize the hospitality industry by prioritizing eco-friendliness and sustainability. One of its defining features will be the utilization of solar energy as the primary source of power, aligning with the founders’ commitment to preserving the environment.
This innovative approach reflects their vision of breaking away from traditional paradigms and offering a holistic escape from the challenges of modern living.
According to the GoFundMe page launched by Hadjamara and Barnett, the Lakes of Summerville community will boast an array of amenities designed to cater to guests’ diverse interests.
From vacation rentals and a clubhouse to fishing spots, bike trails, swimming areas, and miniature golf courses, the resort promises a blend of relaxation and recreation for visitors of all ages.
In discussing their motivation behind the project, Barnett emphasized the desire to transcend societal norms and create a haven free from the constraints of conventional living.
“With our project, we are striving to break free from the Systematic Living of uncontrollable rising rent, chemical-infused foods, restrained education, as well as the untold truths of history,” she told Travel Noire.
Hadjamara echoed this sentiment, highlighting the resort’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
“Our project is a place where sustainability is imperative, and we are highly focused on using solar energy as our primary source of power to preserve the environment,” she affirmed.
The founders say Lakes of Summerville represents more than just a luxury getaway destination: it embodies a vision of empowerment, inclusivity, and community-driven entrepreneurship.
As Hadjamara and Barnett continue their fundraising efforts and advance toward their goal of establishing the resort, they inspire hope and pave the way for a new era of diversity and ownership in the hospitality sector.
