Actress Marsai Martin will be treating several lucky individuals who have made a “lasting impact” in their communities with a personalized bedroom makeover in the new Discovery+ series, “Remix My Space with Marsai Martin.”
The series sees the “Black-Ish” actress flip her personal passion for interior design to create “stunning bedroom overhauls for exceptional, peer-nominated youth who have made a difference in their communities by doing everything from sending care packages to child cancer patients to feeding the homeless or teaching kids how to cook their own nutritious meals. “
At the young age of 17, Martin is already the recipient of numerous 2021 NAACP Image Awards.
“You know me from my roles in film and television and, yes, acting is great,” said Marsai. “But I’m really obsessed with design. A teen’s room should be their sanctuary, so I’m surprising amazing people who are doing incredible things for our world.”
“The best part about remixing teens’ rooms—besides all the cool things I’m still learning about design—is that it helps them move into their future,” added Marsai. “These awesome people are so busy living their best lives and helping others that their sanctuaries get left in the past. I want to help them take care of themselves too.”
In an interview last year with The Hollywood Reporter, Martin shared that she selects her television and movie roles exceptionally carefully.
“I have a couple of rules when you come into my office. When you come into my office, don’t give me this — I don’t do no Black pain,” she told the publication.
“If it’s Black pain I don’t go for it because there’s so many films and projects about that, so that’s not who I am. I want to make sure that it is diverse and real in its own way. I know a lot of people don’t like the word “authentic,” but I just love real stories that people can resonate with, even when it doesn’t resonate with you personally but you know a friend who’s dealt with that or families.”
