A devastating incident at Potomac High School in Oxon Hill, Maryland, has left a mother heartbroken and demanding justice after a group of students reportedly attacked her daughter.
The violent assault has raised alarms over bullying and school safety, with concerns about how both school officials and law enforcement handled the situation.
According to a report by WUSA9, Juanita Caldwell’s daughter, Kayla, was severely beaten by a group of seven girls following a verbal altercation earlier in the day.
The fight escalated into a brutal attack that left Kayla with a broken nose, bruises across her body, and blood on her clothes. A cell phone video, captured by another student, shows Kayla being punched in the head while lying on the floor of a utility closet.
Juanita spoke emotionally about the incident, describing her shock when she arrived at the school to find her daughter in a state of distress, covered in blood.
“I was enraged. I was angry and just wanted to know who attacked my daughter,” she said.
She continued, recalling how Kayla apologized for the fight, but Juanita could see the fear in her daughter’s eyes.
The attack reportedly occurred after a teacher had intervened in the earlier verbal conflict. Kayla was left alone for approximately 30 minutes in the utility room until a cheerleading coach discovered her unconscious and had to shake her awake.
Juanita has since filed a report with Prince George’s County Public Schools, and the school district confirmed that the situation is under investigation. She has also reached out to law enforcement to ensure the students involved are held accountable.
“I can’t see myself being at work and my baby’s at that school, and I don’t know what’s happening,” she said, expressing the overwhelming fear and guilt she feels as a mother.

Kayla, despite her injuries and the emotional toll, expressed a desire to return to school, citing her love for her classes and cheerleading team.
However, her mother fears for her safety and well-being and is advocating for further action to prevent such incidents in the future.
This tragic event has prompted an urgent conversation about bullying, school safety, and how incidents like these are handled by schools and law enforcement, with many questioning whether enough is being done to protect students from harm.
