Cardi B is setting the record straight as conversations swirl around her new Grow-Good Beauty haircare line and comparisons to Beyoncé’s Cécred brand. The Grammy-winning rapper is making it clear there’s no rivalry, just a focus on creating products that work.
Fresh off the successful pre-launch of Grow-Good Beauty, which sold out within an hour, Cardi addressed the growing online chatter during a sit-down interview on Aspire with Emma Grede. As questions surfaced about how her brand stacks up against established Black-owned haircare lines like Pattern Beauty, Fenty Hair, and Cécred, Cardi shut down any narrative of competition.
“It’s not even about competition, it’s about what’s going to have your hair growing,” she said, keeping the focus on performance over comparison. She went on to openly praise Beyoncé’s line, adding, “I use Cécred, and it’s really fcking good. It’s very fcking good.”
While giving credit where it’s due, Cardi also made her intentions for Grow-Good Beauty clear. She said she wants her products to meet that same standard, emphasizing her goal is for customers to genuinely love the results. “That’s what I want, and I’m saying it with confidence. I want people to be like, ‘Yo, her sht is really fcking good.’ I don’t want nobody to complain,” she explained.
The conversation around her brand hasn’t come without criticism. Ahead of a stop in Kansas City for her Little Miss Drama Tour, Cardi went live on Instagram on March 17 to address the backlash and ongoing debates about her haircare launch. During the nearly 25-minute livestream, she spoke candidly about why the conversation feels personal.
Cardi shared that her journey into haircare is rooted in years of insecurity growing up. She described struggling to manage her hair, dealing with teasing at school, and feeling frustrated when it wouldn’t grow the way she wanted. Over time, she experimented with different treatments, including perms, braids, blowouts, and home remedies. Many of which led to damage before she figured out what worked best for her.
Through trial and error, she said she learned how to care for her hair using a mix of techniques and natural ingredients, shaping the foundation for what would eventually become Grow-Good Beauty.
The line officially dropped earlier this month and quickly sold out, signaling strong demand. Although the website is currently out of stock, Cardi has confirmed that a restock is already in the works.
