Emmy-winning actress and hip-hop icon Queen Latifah is speaking out after CBS officially canceled The Equalizer, the hit action-drama series in which she starred as Robyn McCall, a former CIA operative turned vigilante for justice.
In a heartfelt statement shared with fans, Latifah—whose real name is Dana Owens—expressed deep gratitude for the show’s five-season run and promised fans that more action-packed projects are on the horizon.
“Stepping into a kick-ass role like Robyn was everything I hoped it would be,” Latifah said. “The Equalizer blew past every dream we had for it, and having the opportunity to do this for five seasons honestly feels surreal.”
Latifah, who executive produced the show through her Flavor Unit Entertainment company alongside longtime collaborator Shakim Compere, thanked the cast, crew, and especially the fans:
“Y’all have been so loyal, so loud, and so ride-or-die—and that’s exactly why we keep doing this. We can’t thank you enough. It means the world to us.”

The cancellation marks the end of a groundbreaking chapter for CBS. The Equalizer, which premiered in February 2021, was one of the few broadcast dramas to feature a Black woman lead in a traditionally male-dominated genre.
Latifah’s Robyn McCall became a modern icon of strength and justice, resonating with viewers for her fearless defense of the underdog and unwavering moral compass.
What’s Next for Queen Latifah?
Despite the show’s abrupt end, Latifah reassured fans that she isn’t slowing down.
“Don’t worry—I’ll be back kicking ass in something new real soon,” she promised, teasing future projects already in the works.
Latifah’s production company has several development deals in motion, and she remains a key player in both Hollywood and the music industry. Her recent work continues to push boundaries for women and people of color in action and dramatic storytelling.
CBS’s Changing Lineup
The cancellation of The Equalizer follows a trend of network programming shifts as CBS makes room for new content. Though the show consistently held strong ratings and built a loyal audience, CBS has not detailed specific reasons for its decision.
Industry analysts cite a combination of rising production costs and strategic realignment.
Still, the impact of The Equalizer—a reimagining of the 1980s series—will likely be felt long after its final episode airs. With Latifah at the helm, the show not only revived a classic but also redefined what action heroes could look like on prime-time television.
