Before she turned 18, child star Raven-Symoné accomplished feats some actors don’t acquire in a lifetime, but what some may not know is that she had plastic surgery before turning 18 as well.
In a recent episode of The Best Podcast Ever, the 37-year-old Hollywood star shared that she had gotten a “twofer,” a breast reduction and liposuction because she was body shamed and called “fat.”
“There was paperwork involved,” she said because she was a minor at the time. “My dad suggested strongly that I should get my breasts reduced. He was like, ‘So you don’t feel bad, is there anything you want?’ I was like, ‘What? Yeah, if I get lipo, will people stop calling me fat?’
The Atlanta native added: “It was just a mess. Just being that young, the pain of it all, honey. I disassociated. So the recovery was, you know, a little painful.”
She also recalled suffering from a seizure during the surgery.
“I actually had a seizure when I woke up from the surgery and I remember waking up and seeing everything,” she remembered. “Then I had this dry mouth and couldn’t breathe, and they were like, ‘Oh yeah, you had a seizure.'”
Raven-Symoné further revealed that people would constantly critique her over her body.
“I still got reamed through social media because I wasn’t as skinny as everybody else and they still called me fat,” she said. “So it’s like, you get that done and it’s still not what everybody wanted to see.”
Now at 37, she says she has gotten a second reduction to get “a little bit more out ’cause they were still too big for others’ feelings.”
In January, singer and social media influencer Queen Naija revealed she regretted getting a Brazilian butt lift, better known in the cosmetic world circles as a BBL.
In a clip that surfaced on social media, the 27-year-old was asked whether she wishes she could reverse the procedure.
“I’m scared to say this,” she said before taking a long pause. “I didn’t think it was going to do that much. I should’ve just gotten like the tummy tuck and some shots.”
Commenters began to weigh in on the controversial yet popular procedure, with some stating that BBLs are becoming a fading trend that is slowly becoming a thing of the past.
“They told her not to…it’s starting to go out of style now,” one commenter wrote.
“I feel so bad for insecure women in this generation. Know your worth and love the skin you’re in. Nothing will make you perfect,” wrote another.
The Michigan native weighed in in the comment section as well stating, “I hated my hip dips & c-section belly. So I got surgery. Now I dislike how all my weight gain goes to my booty and hips. Either way, I disliked something. Can’t be perfect y’all. I would get it reduced but the risk of getting put to sleep again is scary.”
BBLs have grown increasingly widespread over the recent years but have been condemned for their hazardous side effects and have been linked to several deaths.
The Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation in Aesthetic recently revealed that two out of every 6,000 BBLs lead to death. Three percent of the 692 surgeons surveyed confessed that their patient had died during the controversial BBL procedure.
But many women are still paying for the highly-requested surgery that runs anywhere between $3,000 and $30,000.
Some women have come forward about their regret of getting the procedure, including Cardi B who said on Instagram Live that she had 95 percent of her butt shots removed over the summer. She had this to say about BBLs.
“Before you get your BBL done, you have to make sure your blood levels are all right,” she recommended. “If a doctor says your blood levels are too low or you have diabetes or whatever, don’t do it.”
An in March of this year, K. Michelle said that she needed to have 13 operations to recuperate from complications from botched butt shots procedures.
