When Tamika Little’s son, Laequan Little, went missing on New Year’s Eve, her world turned upside down.
The 26-year-old father was last seen heading to pick up his daughter in Greensboro, North Carolina, but never arrived.
What followed was a mother’s unwavering determination to find answers—a journey marked by love, persistence, and heartbreak.
On Jan. 2, local police searched the area near the Reserve at Bridford Apartments, where Laequan was last seen driving his black Honda Civic. Despite visible tire marks near a pond, authorities dismissed the possibility that a car could submerge in the shallow water. But Tamika trusted her instincts.
“There was never a time he didn’t call me back,” she told Fox 8 “That’s what made me worried when I called him, and he didn’t call back.”
Refusing to give up, Tamika mobilized over 20 volunteers to conduct searches on Jan. 4 and 5. She also sought help from the Rapid Compassion Collective, a nonprofit specializing in finding missing persons.
Their efforts paid off: using an underwater drone, divers located Laequan’s car in the pond. On Jan. 8, Guilford County divers recovered both the car and his body.
“I’m glad he’s found, but 13 days is too long. To get a phone call that they pulled my son out…was devastating,” Tamika said.
As the investigation continues, Tamika remembers her son as a devoted father and selfless man.
“He would give his last to anybody. He loved his daughter to death. Didn’t want to be without her,” she shared.
Tamika’s story is a poignant reminder of the lengths a mother will go for her child.
While the family waits for answers from Greensboro police, Tamika’s actions have already delivered one powerful truth: a mother’s love knows no bounds.
