MBK Entertainment’s Jeanine McLean Is Shaping the Future of Artist Development

by Gee NY

Jeanine McLean, President of MBK Entertainment Inc., is a powerhouse in the music and entertainment industry, recognized for her extraordinary ability to identify and nurture talent.

With an impressive roster of artists like Alicia Keys, H.E.R., and Omarion under her guidance, McLean has built a legacy of transforming potential into global stardom.

Beyond artist development, she has spearheaded innovative collaborations with brands like Nike, L’Oréal, and Adidas, cementing her position as a trailblazer in the industry.

From Jazz Roots to Industry Titan

McLean’s journey into entertainment was inspired by her family’s rich musical heritage. Her grandfather was a professional bass player in a well-known jazz quartet, and her uncle was a concert tour promoter. Growing up with access to arena tours and behind-the-scenes operations, McLean cultivated her own network and gained early exposure to the intricacies of the industry.

“I was a social butterfly, always meeting people and building relationships,” McLean shared. “That natural progression pulled me into the industry, and I haven’t looked back.”

Leading MBK Entertainment to New Heights

At MBK Entertainment, McLean emphasizes the importance of grit, passion, and authenticity in artists. She recalls discovering talents like Elle Varner, who showcased determination by creating music videos from her studio apartment, and Allen Stone, whose soulful writing and performances stood out immediately.

“When you see an artist’s hunger to succeed, their work ethic, and their passion, you know they’re ready to go the distance,” McLean explained.

Her approach balances strategic career guidance with creative freedom, ensuring artists remain authentic while building their careers. She describes the relationship between artists and management as a partnership:

“It’s about building a long game. Everyone has skin in the game, and the vision must be developed side by side.”

Entrepreneurial Ventures and Mentorship

In addition to her work at MBK, McLean founded Castlight Media, a marketing arm designed to support artists beyond the MBK roster.

Castlight Media has been instrumental in projects like New Faces, Big Voices, a touring platform that introduces emerging artists to national audiences.

The initiative’s success lies in its simplicity, McLean noted:

“We’re always looking for that new big voice and fresh face. Building audience awareness and visibility is the first step to growing an artist into a megastar.”

McLean is also deeply committed to mentorship through programs like Grammy U and Femme It Forward.

“I love working with mentees who understand this isn’t just a fun game,” she said. “I’m tough, but it’s rewarding to see them thrive and earn their stripes.”

Her hands-on mentoring style includes inviting mentees to events, backstage experiences, and strategic discussions, giving them an immersive education in the business.

Advice for Aspiring Professionals

For young professionals entering artist management or entertainment, McLean underscores the importance of people skills, strategic thinking, and hands-on experience.

“You have to be a social butterfly, know the scene, and always think about what’s next,” she advised.

Her legacy, both as a mentor and leader, continues to inspire the next generation of talent and industry professionals.
