An annual political conference convening conservative activists and elected officials from across the country has returned to the nation’s capital – this time serving up a pile of hateful comments about Vice President Kamala Harris and former First Lady Michelle Obama, both of whom are considered to be some of the most influential women in the nation’s history.
On Thursday, the Conservative Political Action Committee (better known as CPAC), hosted a panel during the conference called “Cat Fight? Michelle vs. Kamala.” The panel included right-wing commentators discussing derogatory fodder about the women’s race and gender, in addition to their fantasies and nightmares – and which of them could potentially replace President Joe Biden as the 2024 Democratic nominee.
“Kamala could be our first Black woman president — Michelle well…” said Larry O’Connor, a conservative radio host who makes regular appearances on Fox News. His comments alluded to a long-lived right-wing-based rumor suggesting that Mrs. Obama is secretly a man. His comment caused the crowd to erupt in laughter.
“We were way too nice, except for the thing I said about Michelle,” O’Conner remarked.
Mrs. Obama has made it clear on several occasions that she has no intention of running for office, but during the panel discussion, Republicans thought it comical to pit her against Harris in what they believe would be an entertaining feud in the race towards the presidency.
Another panelist, Breitbart Washington Bureau Chief Matt Boyle, said in a recent discussion he had with former president Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago, the GOP frontrunner told him “he expects that Biden will step aside, or be pushed aside, and they will try at the convention to go with Kamala, and he thinks they will fail to get Kamala. …Then the question is who’s after Kamala, and that’s what [panelist Monica Crowley] is saying about Michelle Obama.”
Boyle continued that Rep. Jim Clyburn’s endorsing Biden in 2020 was “contingent on Joe picking a Black woman as his vice-president” and that “all these people talking about Gavin Newsom being the candidate in 2024, I’m like, eh, I don’t think so. Good luck to the white man trying to take it away from the Black woman.”
Monica Crowley, another panelist who is a former Fox News contributor, said that Republicans “need to be prepared for the worst case scenario, and Michelle Obama is the worst case scenario because she poses the most threatening challenge to President Trump.”
“We need to be prepared because she is a woman of color, she is considered iconic.”
Right as she made her comments, she was interrupted by columnist Kurt Schlichter, who questioned whether Mrs. Obama was actually iconic.
“I don’t know, I think a lot of frustrated wine women from the suburbs do,” Schlichter added, highlighting his belief that a significant portion of the country would oppose Mrs. Obama’s nomination — despite her explicit statement indicating her lack of interest in the position.
