The iconic cast of Scandal is set to reunite this weekend in Michigan, lending their voices to Vice President Kamala Harris’s Fighting for Reproductive Freedom Bus Tour.
The tour, part of the Harris-Walz 2024 campaign, aims to rally support for reproductive rights ahead of the upcoming presidential election.
The reunion features fan-favorite Gladiators, including Kerry Washington, Tony Goldwyn, Guillermo Díaz, Bellamy Young, Katie Lowes, Dan Bucatinsky, Scott Foley, Portia de Rossi, George Newbern, Jeff Perry, and Cornelius Smith Jr.
The group will kick off the Michigan leg of the tour at a canvass launch in Madison Heights on Sunday.
The tour is designed to emphasize the stakes of the 2024 election, with a focus on restoring the protections of Roe v. Wade and safeguarding reproductive freedom.
This bus tour, which began in Florida earlier this month, will make over 50 stops across key states, including Michigan, where both blue and red communities like Flint, Lansing, Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, and Marquette will be visited.
The tour highlights the contrast between the Harris-Walz platform, which supports reproductive rights, and the policies of Donald Trump and JD Vance, which include a national abortion ban and restrictions on reproductive health care.
The Scandal cast members have long been politically active, with Washington and Goldwyn previously hosting at the Democratic National Convention.
Their characters, Olivia Pope and President Fitzgerald Grant, left a lasting impact with a groundbreaking abortion episode that aired during the series’ seven-season run.
That episode, which tackled Planned Parenthood funding, was seen as a turning point in the portrayal of abortion on broadcast television.
As Washington noted in a recent interview, her involvement in the 2024 election is about more than just candidates. “This is about building a future where everyone understands their voice and their power within our democracy,” she said.
