The Eritrean Jew comedian informed her followers that she is visiting Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and the Dead Sea to “learn and see with my own eyes.”
The Girls Trip star flew to the country on Tuesday and shared a video of the journey with her fans on Instagram. The short video shows Tiffany Haddish sipping a drink on the luxury flight.
The actress was nestled in the plush confines of a first-class cabin, smiling brightly while describing her decision to visit the “Holy Land.”
She explained that she was heading to Israel, not for a vacation but to learn about the complexities of the Israeli-Hamas conflict and its political influences from the ground up.
Haddish also told her more than 7.4 million followers on Instagram as she relaxed in business class, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and the Dead Sea to learn more about the war.
The Hamas-Israeli conflict began on October 7 when Hamas attacked a music festival in southern Israel, killing approximately 1,200 people and kidnapping another 250.
“‘This is an educational trip for me. I’m gonna learn about the politics,’ Haddish said. ‘See, I feel like, I can’t believe I see everything on the Internet. I need to go see for myself, I’m one of those people,” Haddish began the interview.
The comedian kept iterating the “see” part, using herself as an example of why people should not believe everything they see online.
“I’m gonna go see for myself, I’m gonna go see, I’m gonna go see all of it, I’m gonna ask questions – see with my own eyes,” she continued. “I know a lot of stuff on social media to be not true because I see stuff people say about me, and I live my life – I’m living my life and I’m like, ‘That’s not what I said, that’s not true.'”
Unfortunately, the video did not make the kind of waves the comic actress hoped for. Instead many fans called her tone-deaf for enjoying herself while speaking about a conflict that has taken thousands of lives.
Others, especially pro-Palestinian supporters, slammed her for making light of the life-threatening situation.
According to Social Blade, the video has caused Haddish to lose about 14,215 followers on Instagram in just 11 hours.
