Woman Shares Emotional Border Patrol Experience, Vows to Move Out of the U.S.: ‘Freedom of Movement Isn’t Free Here’

A U.S. realtor’s emotional Instagram post has gone viral after she recounted her experience at a Border Patrol checkpoint inside the United States.

Sharing both a video and a written reflection, she described how the encounter left her shaken, tearful, and questioning the meaning of freedom of movement within the country.

The post, made by Realtor @sonassunni, detailed how she approached the checkpoint with her passport, driver’s license, and professional badge ready.

Driving a rental car without an insurance card, she admitted to nearly breaking down as officers prepared to stop all vehicles.

“I was shaking, and I almost cried on camera,” she wrote. “This is what people don’t understand—freedom of movement isn’t free here. You can feel the walls closing in, and you know it’s only going to get tighter.”

In the accompanying video, her distress was palpable. She told followers, “I cried the halfway home. Nerves are shot right now. Luckily I ended up putting my badge back on and had my passport and driver’s license ready to go.”

The video struck a nerve with many online, amplifying concerns about interior checkpoints run by Border Patrol within 100 miles of U.S. borders.

“This is not normal. This is not f***ing normal at all,” she said, fighting back tears.

She ended the recording by thanking herself for beginning a visa process in Portugal, signaling her intent to find stability abroad.

“You need a Plan B. You need a damn Plan B… I’m livid, I’m so triggered, I’m about to cry again,” she urged.

Critics argue that border patrol stops disproportionately impact minority drivers, raising questions about civil liberties and constitutional rights.

“Nobody should live in fear just trying to drive,” she said in her caption.

Her raw testimony adds to a growing national conversation about mobility, surveillance, and the lived experience of driving while under watch, especially under the current Trump administration.
