A 23-year-old Chicago mother is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly stabbing her three young children in what prosecutors say was a planned attempt to “make them go to heaven.”
The disturbing incident unfolded around 5:45 p.m. on May 28 on South Harvard Avenue, when tow truck driver DeVaughen Stringfellow spotted a toddler in a blood-soaked diaper wandering alone in the street. Stringfellow told CBS News he saw the child’s mother, Aurionah-Rakii-Karie Parker-White, emerge from a nearby apartment building, screaming, “Help me! My baby!”
After calling 911 with no immediate response, Stringfellow made a split-second decision:
“At first, I wasn’t going to put them in my truck with the blood — but I threw them all in the truck,” he said.
Inside the apartment, police later discovered that Parker-White’s other two children, ages 3 and 5, were also bleeding from their wrists. All three siblings were rushed to a nearby hospital and then transferred to the University of Chicago’s Comer Children’s Hospital, where they were listed in serious condition.
The chilling details continued to emerge when the 5-year-old allegedly told hospital staff that his mother had tried to kill him and his siblings. He reportedly said his mother told them she was “going to make them go to heaven,” according to NBC Chicago.
During police questioning, prosecutors say Parker-White confessed on video, stating that she was overwhelmed, suicidal, and didn’t want her children to suffer.
She admitted the stabbings were wrong but explained that caring for the children alone had become emotionally and mentally unmanageable.
On Saturday, May 31, Parker-White was formally charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder and three counts of aggravated battery to a child. She remains in custody at Cook County Jail, with her next court appearance scheduled for June 6.
It remains unclear whether she has obtained legal representation.
