In a heartwarming gesture, six-year-old Gianna Floyd, the youngest daughter of George Floyd, has become a shareholder in Disney, courtesy of Barbra Streisand.
Gianna shared her excitement on Instagram, posing with a certificate of Disney shares and expressing her gratitude to Streisand for the thoughtful gift.
“Thank You @barbrastreisand for my package, I am now a Disney Stockholder thanks to you,” Gianna wrote in her post.
Representatives for Streisand confirmed to the Guardian that she indeed sent the shares to Floyd’s daughter, along with videos of two of her television specials from the 1960s, “My Name is Barbra” (1965) and “Color Me Barbra” (1966).
“I sent Gianna videos where I played a little girl in my first television special, singing kid songs, and my second special – a sequence with lots of baby animals,” Streisand explained.
Although the spokesperson did not disclose the exact number of shares purchased for Gianna, Disney shares are currently valued at about $127 each.
Streisand has been vocal about her condemnation of George Floyd’s tragic death, referring to it as “a modern day lynching.”
She recently shared a touching video of Gianna on the shoulders of former NBA star Stephen Jackson, where the child’s message, “Daddy changed the world,” resonated deeply.
Gianna, affectionately known as “GiGi,” is the youngest of Floyd’s five children and her Instagram account, believed to be managed by her mother, Roxie Washington, showcases glimpses of her life.
Various benefactors have stepped forward to support the Floyd family in recent weeks. Texas Southern University in Houston announced a full scholarship for Gianna, should she choose to attend the university.
Additionally, the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority offered scholarships to Gianna and Floyd’s grandchildren, Taleiaha and Journi, for attendance at historically black colleges and universities.
Rapper Kanye West established a college savings plan to cover Gianna’s tuition expenses fully, while a GoFundMe campaign for her has already surpassed $2 million in donations, demonstrating widespread support for the Floyd family during this challenging time.
