A Kansas City mother of four is recovering after being shot multiple times during a terrifying rideshare ordeal that turned into a high-speed chase, gunfire, and a fiery crash, according to authorities and her own account.
Terah Moore, who had called an Uber for a short trip before work, said she had no idea she was stepping into danger when she entered the vehicle. Moments into the ride, the driver reportedly noticed they were being followed by a burgundy Jeep Grand Cherokee.
“I thought I was never going to see my kids again,” Moore said in an emotional interview, recalling how the situation escalated rapidly.

High-Speed Chase Turns Violent
As the पीछing vehicle stayed close behind, Moore said she tried to help the driver navigate side streets in an effort to escape. The situation intensified as the car sped through intersections and even crossed railroad tracks with an approaching train.
Shortly after, gunfire erupted near Roe Avenue and Franklin Park.
Moore described ducking in her seat as bullets struck the vehicle. Despite attempts to flee, the attackers continued firing until the Uber crashed and flipped. Even after the crash, she said, the suspects exited their vehicle and continued shooting as the car caught fire.
Injuries and Rescue
Moore was struck five times—in the neck, chest, arm, and leg. Despite her injuries, she survived, crediting bystanders who rushed to help.
Good Samaritans pulled Moore and the driver from the burning wreckage and called emergency services, actions she says ultimately saved her life.
“I really appreciate that y’all was there to help us out that car… because I was able to see my kids again,” she said.
Ongoing Investigation
Police are actively searching for a burgundy Jeep Grand Cherokee with Kansas license plate 910-3-ACY. No suspects have been taken into custody, and investigators say the motive remains unclear.
Moore told reporters she did not know the suspects or the driver prior to the incident.
Calls for Rideshare Safety Reforms
The rideshare company Uber described the incident as “deeply troubling” and said it is cooperating fully with law enforcement.
Civil rights attorney Ben Crump has since taken up Moore’s case, calling for stronger safety protections for rideshare passengers.
“This is a tragic case of an innocent passenger caught in someone else’s danger with no warning,” he said, urging companies to review and improve safety measures.
Personal Toll
Beyond her physical injuries, Moore is now facing additional hardship. She recently lost her job as a forklift operator following the incident and is the sole provider for her four children.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to assist with her medical bills and recovery as she begins the long road to healing.
