12-Year-Old Girl Files Lawsuit Against Savannah Businesses Following Father’s Fatal Shooting

In a poignant and unprecedented move, Serenity Manigault, the 12-year-old daughter of a slain Marine, has filed a lawsuit against several businesses in the Congress Street corridor of Downtown Savannah, Georgia.

The legal action aims to hold these establishments accountable for the tragic death of her father, Tristen Manigault, who was fatally shot on August 30 during a violent altercation in the area.

Tristen Manigault, a Marine who was trying to intervene in a fight, was struck by a bullet during the gunfire exchange. The Savannah police are still searching for his assailant.

Serenity’s lawsuit names several nightlife venues and stores, including Flock of the Wok, Octane Bar and Lounge, Smoke and Vape Market, and the Peacock Lounge, alleging their failure to ensure the safety of patrons contributed to the incident.

Mark Tate, the attorney representing Serenity, criticized the business owners for prioritizing profits over public safety.

“Time and time again, when businesses put their own bottom line over the safety of their customers, they lose in the end,” Tate stated. “It’s a shame that it had to come to the murder of this man to finally hold them accountable.”

Tate argues that the businesses were aware of the “heightened criminal activity” in the area, especially at night, but failed to implement adequate safety measures.

“If there had been proper oversight and a clear message that this area was secure, this Marine would be alive today,” Tate added.

Serenity’s mother, Heather Delgado, expressed the profound impact of her husband’s death on their family. Despite her grief, Delgado stated that the lawsuit seeks to enhance security and accountability in the area.

“She wants everybody held responsible,” Delgado said. “And the people that were there need to come forward and tell your side of the story.”

In response to the tragedy, Octane Bar and Lounge has had its liquor license suspended. The Savannah police continue their investigation into Manigault’s death, working to identify and apprehend the suspect.

Serenity’s lawsuit represents a significant effort to address safety concerns and ensure that businesses in the area are held responsible for maintaining a secure environment for their patrons.
