Laurence Fishburne is reliving his past after opening up about the abuse he inflicted on his ex-wife.
On Jemele Hill’s new podcast, Jemele Hill is Unbothered, the Boyz n the Hood star shared how he sought therapy to help him on his path towards healing after his abusive relationship. He said he needed to seek help after playing an abusive husband on the 1980s classic What’s Love Got to Do With It?
“Having had some experience with that as a young man, I did a lot of counseling,” shared The Matrix movie star. “I found a great African American therapist who helped me deal with my anger issues. Because I had been physical with my first wife. I got married when I was twenty-three years old, my first wife was twenty-one,” Fishburne shared. “And our relationship was very volatile. And I was physically abusive with my first wife, to my regret, and to my shame.”
He continued: “So, I was very familiar with the territory and with the emotional landscape of what, you know, brings a person to that place. Where they feel the need to be abusive to their partner.”
Fishburne married Hajna Moss in 1985 and the couple share two children, Langston and Montana Fishburne. He then married actress Gina Torres in 2002 and gave birth to his third child, Delilah, before they divorced in 2017.
His eldest daughter, Montana, followed in his footsteps and began a career in acting – but for X-rated movies. The porn star says she looked up to Kim Kardashian, who inspired her to get into adult films. Montana’s relationship with Fishburne soured following her break in adult entertainment.
In an interview with TMZ, the adult actress shared how her relationship with her father has evolved throughout the years.
“I’m not going to speak with you ’till you turn your life around. You embarrassed me.” she says her father told her.
She added that her father told her “you used your last name. No one uses their real name in porn.”
“I wasn’t really into mainstream acting,” she told Us. “People would ask me, ‘Do you want to get into acting? Do you want to be an actress?’ and I would say, straight up, ‘No.’…I knew I wanted to do adult [films].”
She continued: “I liked it. I was like, ‘Wow, now I really want to do it. [I] just took it from there. I became really passionate after my first at-home video.”
