Kristina Laferne Roberts, author of erotic fiction novels is questioning how a short story she wrote in her book Z-Rated has turned out on the screens.

According to Roberts, there seems to be some confusion about Tyler Perry’s new thriller, Mea Culpa, because she wrote a similar story with the same title in 2012.

“I feel like I need to make a brief statement. The film adaptation of my novel, Addicted, was released in 2014 and is called Addicted. There seems to be some confusion about that at the moment,” Zane started.

“Charisse Nesbit and I were the Executive Producers, and it was directed by Billie Woodruff. In addition, and possibly adding to the confusion,” she continued. “I wrote a short, erotic story called Mea Culpa in my book Z-Rated which came out in 2012. Both are still readily available. Thanks, and have a good evening.”

There have been several lawsuits against Tyler Perry for stealing ideas from other writers. In 2013, author Terri Donald used the American filmmaker for plagiarising from her 2007 novel Bad Apples Can Be Good Fruit for his film “Good Deeds.”

Another lawsuit was filed against Perry that year for stealing Temptation from screenwriter William James’s 200 screenplay Lovers Kill.

The most notable was Tyler Perry being sued for allegedly plagiarising “Madea Gets A Job” by Lisa Daniels, a struggling writer.

Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey also privately settled another legal battle accusing them of stealing the idea behind their hit show “The Have and Have Nots” in 2014.

Shortly after, Parables Entertainment sued Perry and Harpo Productions in federal court.

Tyler Perry’s new Netflix movie Mea Culpa dominated social media and the Netflix charts since its release on February 23, despite receiving negative reviews from critics.

Kelly Rowland plays Mea in Mea Culpa, a lawyer dealing with marital issues exacerbated by her husband, Kal’s controlling mother, Azalia, who is also battling cancer. Amid her restlessness, Mea takes on the case of Zyair, a well-known artist accused of murdering his girlfriend, Heidi.

Despite her struggles, Mea accepts Zyair’s case as his defense lawyer. The prosecutor, Ray, is her brother-in-law and the assistant district attorney. This raises immediate questions regarding a conflict of interest, which only worsens as Mea and Zyair become romantically involved.
