Charlie Kirk’s death has left Candace Owens heartbroken following the shocking assassination of her dear friend and political partner.
In an emotional YouTube video shared on September 11, the conservative commentator expressed her sorrow, describing Kirk as more than just a colleague. He was like family to her. “There’s not a single person in the world that I would wish that on, and least of all someone with a heart like Charlie’s,” Owens said, her voice filled with emotion as she reflected on their close relationship. “He loved his family. He loved his wife. He loved his country. And he didn’t deserve that ending.”
Owens and Kirk’s friendship began years ago during their involvement with Turning Point USA, the youth-oriented conservative organization that significantly contributed to their rise in national politics. She candidly shared that without Kirk, her own journey in the public eye might not have happened. “We came up in politics together,” she noted. “I don’t know what else to say other than I’m in a lot of pain right now. We will carry the torch. I will never allow the memory of Charlie to be forgotten.”
The tragic event occurred on September 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University during Kirk’s “American Comeback” tour. Nearly 3,000 attendees had gathered in the courtyard to hear him speak, and what was meant to be an engaging Q&A session turned into chaos.
Kirk, 31, had just answered a question about mass shootings when a gunshot rang out. Witnesses reported that the shot came from the roof of the Losee Center overlooking the courtyard. Moments later, Kirk was seen slumped in his chair, with a visible neck wound, as horrified attendees screamed and fled in panic.
As of now, no suspect has been apprehended, but authorities have released images of a “person of interest,” a young man dressed in Converse sneakers, sunglasses, and a black long-sleeved shirt featuring an American flag and eagle. Police suspect he may be a college-aged individual who blended in with students before the tragic shooting.
This loss has left not only Owens but the broader conservative community in shock. Kirk was more than just another activist; he was a significant voice, a controversial figure, and a close ally of former President Donald Trump. His unexpected and violent death has ignited intense discussions surrounding campus safety, political violence, and America’s ongoing battle with extremism.
“This was my best friend. My brother,” Owens expressed. “And I just can’t believe this is how his story ended.”
