An 18-year-old Louisiana woman has died after what authorities say began as a dispute on social media and escalated into a fatal shooting inside her home.

According to Baton Rouge police and court records cited by The Advocate, Kassidy Jackson was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition on Jan. 8 after a shooting at her residence around 2 p.m. She later died from her injuries.

Police identified the suspect as 19-year-old Paulasia Banks, who later turned herself in to authorities and has been charged with first-degree murder. Investigators say Banks went to Jackson’s home to confront her over being blocked on TikTok, arriving with two men who have not been publicly identified.

Authorities allege that when Jackson answered the door, the group forced their way inside. Banks reportedly questioned Jackson about the social media block and accused her of ignoring phone calls. An argument ensued and turned physical, according to statements provided to police.

An unidentified woman who was inside the home (rumored to be Kassidy Jackson’s new girlfriend) told investigators she briefly left the room to check on a child and then heard gunshots. When she returned, she found Jackson on the floor, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Banks and the two men left the scene following the shooting, police said.

However, investigators noted inconsistencies in Banks’ account. She later told authorities she had been forced out of the house and fired shots through the door, unintentionally striking Jackson. Banks also claimed she and Jackson had been romantically involved for several months—an assertion the unidentified witness disputes.

Banks is currently being held without bond as the investigation continues.

Police have not announced whether additional suspects will face charges.

The case has drawn attention to the growing role social media plays in interpersonal disputes, particularly among young people.

Law enforcement officials nationwide have increasingly warned that online conflicts—when combined with access to firearms—can quickly escalate into deadly encounters.

Jackson’s death has sent shockwaves through the local community, with friends and family expressing grief and disbelief over the circumstances surrounding her killing.

Authorities say the investigation remains active.
