Actress KJ Smith Urges Blacks To Consider Moving Out of America: ‘We Are Not Trapped Here’

Actress Khaneshia Smith, known professionally as KJ Smith, delivered a powerful message that resonated deeply with the audience at the 56th NAACP Image Awards, held on Saturday, February 22, 2025.

Known for her roles in Sistas and Power Book III: Raising Kanan, KJ highlighted the importance of understanding cultural roots and exploring global opportunities for the Black community.

“We’re not trapped here,” KJ told a reporter from The Neighborhood Talk on the sidelines of the awards event.

She addressed the current political climate in the U.S stating:

“There are places that we can go, countries that are receiving us back with open arms. I think it’s time for the Black community as a whole to start looking into those resources.”

When asked what she wished was discussed more within the community, KJ reiterated the significance of reconnecting with cultural heritage.

“Understanding our roots, I think it’s really important,” she said. “There are countries offering citizenship and welcoming us back. It’s time we explore these opportunities.”
