Florida A&M University (FAMU) has officially named Angela Suggs as its new Vice President and Director of Athletics, marking a historic moment as she returns to her alma mater to lead the university’s athletic programs.

Suggs, a FAMU graduate of 1992, is a respected figure in sports administration and brings decades of experience and leadership to the role.

In her statement, Suggs expressed her excitement, saying:

“Accepting the role of Vice President and Director of Athletics at my alma mater is truly an honor. Florida A&M University is world-class in its mission, values, and pursuit of excellence in academics and athletics. I am truly humbled by the trust placed in me and look forward to locking arms and working together with all stakeholders in moving FAMU Athletics forward.”

Suggs currently serves as the President and CEO of the Florida Sports Foundation, a position she has held since August 2017.

During her tenure, she led efforts to boost sports tourism and development across the state, overseeing Florida’s $74 billion sports tourism industry.

Her leadership played a crucial role in securing and retaining high-profile sporting events like the Super Bowl, College Football Playoff, and Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix. Suggs also promoted amateur sports development, further solidifying her reputation as an impactful leader in the sports world.

Suggs has deep roots with FAMU, previously serving as Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs and Senior Woman Administrator.

During that time, she was pivotal in advancing the university’s athletic programs, leading multiple teams to championship seasons in softball, tennis, track & field, and cross country, while securing vital sponsorships and revenue opportunities.

Her contributions to sports have not gone unnoticed. Suggs has received numerous accolades, including the Women in Sports Leadership Award and being featured in the 850 Business Magazine for her significant impact on Florida’s non-professional sports teams.

Suggs holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Economics from FAMU and a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from St. Thomas University.

She is also a life member of the FAMU National Alumni Association. Suggs is married to fellow FAMU graduate Davin Suggs, and they have a daughter, Dillyn Suggs.

An introductory press conference is scheduled for Monday, September 23, at 10:30 a.m. in the Al Lawson Center, with Suggs officially assuming her role on October 7.
