‘Burger King Mom’ Fired! Woman Who Went Viral for Working 12-Hour Shift Alone Says She’s Been Sacked

by Gee NY

Nykia Hamilton, the 25-year-old single mother of three who went viral earlier this summer as the “Burger King Mom” for running an entire fast-food restaurant alone, has shared an unfortunate update: she has been fired!

Hamilton first captured public attention in July when a customer recorded her juggling every responsibility at a Columbia, South Carolina Burger King after a co-worker abruptly quit mid-shift.

She took orders at the counter and drive-thru, prepared meals, cleaned, and managed the store for more than 12 hours straight.

The viral moment quickly became a symbol of worker burnout in the fast-food industry, with many praising Hamilton’s resilience and sacrifice. Yet in a tearful TikTok posted recently, she revealed that Burger King terminated her employment, citing her lateness.

“Bruh, [Burger King] fired me because I’ve been late because of my kids,” Hamilton explained. “My kids come first. Y’all don’t pay for no babysitter, or nothing.”

Hamilton also addressed critics who questioned her appearance and jewelry, clarifying that her accessories came from budget retailer SHEIN. Still, the stress and scrutiny have left her emotionally drained.

“I’m already aggravated, I’m already depressed, all of this mental [stuff], and [people are] messing with me, so leave me alone,” she said. “I ain’t want no fame, no money, none of this.”

Even before the firing, Hamilton had spoken openly about the toll the job was taking on her family life.

“I be missing out on my kids’ lives when I work so much,” she told local outlet WACH News in July. “I have to provide for them, but I really don’t have time to spend with them—and it hurts me a lot.”

Following her viral moment, supporters launched a GoFundMe to help Hamilton support her children. Donations have surpassed $70,000, exceeding her original goal. Many continue to offer words of encouragement, reminding her that brighter days may lie ahead.

Despite her struggles, Hamilton says she is determined to keep moving forward for her children.

“My mind is already messed up. I’m trying to keep pushing for my kids, but I cannot do this [alone] no more,” she said. “The devil been on my back bad…I promise you he won’t.”

Hamilton’s story has struck a chord with thousands online, raising questions about working conditions, child care support, and the sacrifices faced by single parents.
