Remember that viral moment when Cardi B chucked her mic into the crowd after getting splashed with a drink at Drai’s Beachclub in Vegas? Well, now it’s turned into a full-blown lawsuit.

The Grammy-winning rapper is officially being sued over that infamous mic-throwing moment during her July 2023 performance at Drai’s Beachclub in Las Vegas.

Cardi, mid-performance, suddenly hurls her mic into the crowd after someone threw a drink at her. The clip went viral instantly, and now, so has the lawsuit.

According to legal documents filed on Monday, July 21, the woman behind the suit (identified as Jane Doe) is accusing Cardi of assault, battery, and negligence. She claims the rapper’s impulsive mic toss caused “severe emotional distress, shock, humiliation, and physical injury,” on top of “reputational and emotional harm.”

Here’s where it gets messier.

Footage from that day shows Cardi hyping up the crowd, even saying, “Splash me down. That st feels good.” At one point, she poured water on herself and even shook her booty as fans threw water in her direction. But then came the shift. When someone tossed a drink at her, allegedly with ice and alcohol, Cardi B snapped. “I said my psy, not my face!” she shouted, before sending that mic flying into the audience.

Now Jane Doe is saying she was just part of the fun, trying to cool Cardi off like everyone else, but ended up catching more heat than she bargained for.

This isn’t the first time the incident has sparked legal action. Initially, there were reports that Doe planned to sue weeks after the concert. But that investigation quietly disappeared. Fast forward to now, and it’s a full-blown lawsuit, one Cardi’s legal team is already brushing off. Her attorneys call the lawsuit a “pitiful attempted financial shakedown.”

Despite the chaos, not everything from that day ended on a sour note. The very microphone Cardi threw, which belonged to a sound company called The Wave, was auctioned off on eBay. The proceeds were donated to the Wounded Warrior Project and the Friendship Circle of Las Vegas, with a final bid of an eye-popping $99,000.

While the mic may have turned into money for charity, it might cost Cardi a lot more if this case moves forward.
