Lizzo scored an important victory this week in her ongoing legal dispute with a wardrobe stylist who alleges that she experienced a hostile work environment during the singer’s European tour in 2023.

On Monday, December 2, U.S. District Judge Fernando L. Aenlle-Rocha granted a partial motion to drop parts of the case against Lizzo, her touring production company Big Grrrl Big Touring, and other team members.

Asha Daniels stepped into the spotlight with her lawsuit against Lizzo, coming on the heels of a similar case brought by three former dancers who reported experiences of sexual harassment and a toxic work environment. In response to these serious allegations, Lizzo firmly denied the claims. Reflecting on the turmoil brought about by the lawsuits, she shared on Instagram in March that she was contemplating leaving the music industry altogether due to the backlash.

Apparently, she reconsidered her decision, and now Lizzo has claimed her victory.

A federal judge has determined that plaintiff Asha Daniels lacks the standing to sue Lizzo personally after recognizing the singer’s touring and payroll firms as her employers. In a ruling accessed by media outlets, U.S. District Judge Fernando L. Aenlle-Rocha dismissed all seven claims against Lizzo, stating that Daniels cannot make another attempt.

The Judge also approved a partial motion to dismiss several of the claims, as Daniels collaborated with the Grammy Award-winning artist during a tour in Europe, where U.S. labor laws are not applicable.

Despite Daniels’ claims, there was a notable lack of evidence to support her assertions of the overtime she supposedly worked during the tour.

“These allegations do not establish plausibly that any portion of the plaintiff’s claim arose from work performed in the United States or qualifying territories,” a portion of the ruling stated as obtained by the Jasmine Brand.

A source close to Lizzo told Page Six that the artist remains steadfast in fighting the remaining allegations, calling the claims “false” and part of a broader smear campaign against her.

“There’s a reason that Lizzo continues to fight long after most public figures would have settled—because these allegations are false and can’t be allowed to stand,” the insider said. “She is not going to stop fighting until every single one of these ridiculous smears is dismissed.”

Lizzo has been entangled in several lawsuits involving her former background dancers this year, who accused her of more severe misconduct. Despite the mounting claims, she has remained vocal about her innocence and determination to clear her name.
