Jennifer Hudson got a holiday surprise from her son that hit straight to the heart. On December 26, the EGOT-winning singer and actress was overcome with emotion after her 16-year-old son, David Jr., gifted her a video of himself singing one of her songs.
In the video shared on her Instagram, David Jr. told his mother, “I didn’t want to sing with you because I had made you something. I’m gonna just let the video play.” As the camera focused on Jennifer, 44, she immediately burst into tears while listening to her son’s cover of “Find the Love” from her 2024 holiday album The Gift of Love. Her boyfriend Common, also present in the clip, appeared visibly touched by the heartfelt gesture.
David Jr.’s rendition captured the emotional essence of the song. “I roll with the tide, the lows and the highs, I’ve been prayin’ at night,” he sang from a recording studio, pouring his own voice into the lyrics. Jennifer, clearly moved, struggled to find words. “Y’all done outdid yourselves now,” she said through tears, dabbing her face with tissues. “Wow. I don’t know what to tell you.”
Jennifer summed up her feelings in the Instagram caption, reflecting on the deep impact of her son’s thoughtful gift. “I feel the love! Out of the mouths of babes,” she wrote. “This hit me in the depths of my heart that only he can reach. I truly received a Gift of Love!!!”
This wasn’t the first time David Jr. displayed his impressive vocal skills. Last month, the mother-son duo hit the studio to record a duet of Daniel Caesar and H.E.R.’s 2017 hit “Best Part.” Jennifer offered occasional guidance while David held his own, showing that his musical abilities are only growing stronger.
For Jennifer Hudson, this Christmas was unforgettable thanks to one performance from her son.
