In a passionate plea to fans and media consumers, actress, writer, and activist Erika Alexander is leading a call to action following MSNBC’s decision to cancel Joy Reid’s acclaimed program, The ReidOut.
The cancellation of the award-winning show, which has been a cornerstone of political and cultural discourse, has sparked widespread concern among viewers and public figures alike.
Taking to Instagram, Alexander, co-founder of Color Farm Media, shared her disappointment, urging MSNBC to reconsider its decision while highlighting the significant impact of Reid’s journalism.
“Real talk, they don’t make them like Joy Reid. She was BORN brilliant and decided to use her powers for good. So it matters. She matters. We need her voice, now more than ever,” Alexander wrote in the caption of her video statement.
A Voice for Underrepresented Communities

Since its debut in 2020, The ReidOut has been instrumental in amplifying critical issues affecting marginalized communities.
Reid and her team have provided a platform for discussions on missing women of color, reparations, HBCUs, racial equity, female political candidates, and economic justice through movements like the Poor People’s Campaign. Additionally, Reid has delved into pop culture, celebrating milestones in Black entertainment and history.
Alexander emphasized how rare it is to have a journalist like Reid leading these conversations on a mainstream platform.
“She and her producers always found time to support my projects, many of them talking about hard but important subjects… She’s the real deal,” she stated in her video.
A Call to Action

Alexander has encouraged supporters to take immediate action by:
- Using social media to share the hashtag #WeNeedJoy to amplify their voices.
- Watching The ReidOut at 7 PM ET/6 PM CT/4 PM PT and then turning off MSNBC immediately afterward.
- Calling MSNBC at (212) 664-4444 to express their disappointment over the cancellation.
The grassroots movement surrounding Reid’s show cancellation underscores a broader conversation about media representation and the need for diverse voices in political journalism.
As the campaign gains momentum, supporters remain hopeful that MSNBC will recognize the void that Reid’s absence will create.
