Tragedy struck Albany, Georgia on January 22, 2025, when 33-year-old Chelsea Milledge, a devoted mother of four, was fatally shot in her own home while her children looked on.

The devastating incident unfolded in front of her 10-year-old daughter, who witnessed her mother’s brutal death.

“She barely got any sleep, crying for her mother,” said Anthony Milledge, Chelsea’s father, in an emotional interview with WALB-TV. “We’re all grieving, and I understand her pain. I feel her pain because I’m going through this with her.”

The Albany Police Department confirmed Thursday morning that Milledge was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for emergency surgery but tragically succumbed to her injuries shortly after.

Authorities have not disclosed what may have led to the deadly shooting, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

Milledge’s father, deeply shaken by the loss, spoke of his daughter’s personality, describing her as a “quiet, sweet, homebody” and vowed to seek justice for her.

“Every court date, every parole date—I will be there. I won’t miss any of it. I promise,” he said, pledging to fight for justice on behalf of his late daughter.

The investigation quickly led to the arrest of 21-year-old Eugene Barber, who was taken into custody after evidence was collected at the scene.

Barber has been charged with Milledge’s murder, home invasion in the first degree, and possession of a firearm, according to Albany Police.

As the family deals with their grief, they are now focused on the care of Milledge’s four children, who are currently being looked after by their grandparents.

The community has rallied around the family, offering support in the wake of this senseless tragedy.

Milledge’s death has sparked an outpouring of grief from local residents who are struggling to comprehend the senseless violence that has left a young family torn apart.
