JT’s much-anticipated album release party in New York City took an unexpected turn last night when she asked some guests to leave.
On Friday, July 19, the former City Girl released her debut solo mixtape, City Cinderella, via Quality Control Music. JT’s lead single “Sideways” appears on the 16-track project, along with “Okay” and a remix featuring Jeezy. She also has new collaborations with DJ Khaled, Stunna Girl, and Clip, opening with her “Intro (Hope).”
The event at a trendy Manhattan venue was supposed to celebrate JT’s new music. However, the atmosphere quickly changed as tensions rose between the star and some overzealous fans.
The event, which was supposed to be an intimate celebration of her new project, “City Cinderella,” quickly became overcrowded, prompting JT to opt for a smaller, less volatile setting.
Videos circulating online show JT addressing the audience directly.
“If I had not personally invited you, and I don’t know you personally, at 1 o’clock, I would have to ask you all to leave because there’s literally no room in here. This is supposed to be an intimate event. I don’t know when it turned into a party.
“I appreciate your support, but this is overwhelming. I can’t even start the project,” JT told the crowd, visibly disturbed by the large number.
JT truly stands on business throughout the album and establishes herself as a solo lyricist. She wows the crowd with hits like “Swang,” “90’s Baby,” “JT Coming,” and her tribute to the late “Uncle Al.”
The excitement among fans who gathered to celebrate with the City Girls rapper was palpable. The venue was packed with industry insiders, influencers, and die-hard fans who had been looking forward to the release of JT’s highly anticipated album.
However, JT became increasingly concerned about the growing crowd and the invasive behavior of some fans.
“So I’mma ask y’all after y’all done listening, or if now, y’all wanna leave, y’all can. I’m so sorry. I’m still expecting more guests. And some people are bombing sh*t upstairs. It’s a lot,” she addressed the situation.
“So I’m asking you all to respect my privacy, and at 1 o’clock, I would like you all to leave. Okay? If I didn’t invite you personally, I know who I invited personally.”
Social media quickly lit up with reactions to the incident, as JT’s request was met with mixed reactions.
Despite the unexpected turn of events, JT’s album has already received high praise from critics and fans alike. The drama surrounding the release party has only fueled interest in the project, with many keen on hearing the music that has fans almost stampeding at an album listening.
