A new chapter is unfolding on Wisteria Lane! Disney’s Onyx Collective is officially developing Wisteria Lane, a spinoff of the iconic ABC series Desperate Housewives, with Emmy-nominated actress and producer Kerry Washington on board as executive producer.
The project is a collaboration between Washington’s Simpson Street, 20th Television, and Onyx Collective — the Disney General Entertainment content brand known for critically acclaimed projects like Summer of Soul and The 1619 Project.
While details on casting and release are still under wraps, the announcement has already stirred excitement among fans of the original series.
Washington is currently attached only as an executive producer, and it remains unclear whether she will also step in front of the camera.
A Fresh Take on a Cult Classic

Written by The Flight Attendant’s Natalie Chaidez, Wisteria Lane is being described as “a fun, sexy, darkly comedic soap/mystery” in the same spirit as the original.
The new show will center on five diverse women — friends and sometimes frenemies — living on a seemingly idyllic suburban cul-de-sac where white-picket fences and perfect Instagram posts conceal scandalous secrets and emotional turmoil.
On the surface, all appears perfect: designer homes, happy families, and spotless driveways. But just like its predecessor, Wisteria Lane will dive beneath the manicured surface to explore the messiness of human lives behind closed doors.
Will the Original Cast Return?
The original Desperate Housewives, created by Marc Cherry, ran for eight successful seasons from 2004 to 2012, featuring a powerhouse ensemble cast including Eva Longoria, Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, and Nicollette Sheridan.
The series followed the dramatic lives of women living on Wisteria Lane after the suicide of their neighbor, Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong), who also served as the show’s narrator.
Though Cherry was not involved in the initial pitch for the spinoff, he is reportedly aware of the project and may be involved in some capacity.
Cherry has previously expressed interest in revisiting the iconic street in a different era, including a potential 1960s reboot.
In a 2024 interview with People, he said, “The character I miss writing the most is actually Wisteria Lane; that was the most fun playground anyone in the history of television has ever had.”
Fan interest in a revival has remained strong over the years. Cherry noted that over “70,000 people” have asked him about a potential reboot, and Eva Longoria has gone on record saying she would be the “first person” to sign on if the opportunity arose.
While not confirmed, Wisteria Lane would likely premiere on Hulu, where Onyx Collective’s other high-profile content currently streams. More details, including casting, plot development, and premiere dates, are expected in the coming months.
