Letitia James Raises Over $1 Million To Boost Her Campaign Since Trump Trial

New York Attorney General Letitia James has successfully raised over $1 million for her political campaign since the commencement of former President Donald Trump’s civil business trial last October.

James, who accused Trump and key executives of the Trump Organization of inflating his net worth by billions on financial statements used for securing deals and loans, saw a significant legal victory when Judge Arthur Engoron ordered Trump to pay a $355 million penalty plus interest in February.

Campaign finance data reveals that James has accumulated $1.113 million in campaign funds since the trial began, including a $70,000 transfer from her previous campaign.

This total, reported through July 11, does not include contributions received after that date.

Elected to her position in 2018 with a 27-point margin and reelected in 2022 by about 9 points, James’s role as New York Attorney General does not have term limits, potentially allowing her to run for a third term in 2026.

She has also been mentioned as a potential candidate for other offices.

James briefly entered the 2022 Democratic gubernatorial primary but withdrew in favor of incumbent Governor Kathy Hochul, who succeeded Andrew Cuomo after his resignation.

Instead, James opted for reelection to her current role.

While James has not disclosed her 2026 plans, she is speculated to be a possible gubernatorial candidate again.

Local news outlet City and State New York noted that her fundraising efforts might benefit from her high-profile legal victory against Trump.

Her lawsuit against Trump has elevated her national profile, drawing support from Democrats while earning criticism from Republicans who argue that her office has unfairly targeted the former president.

Trump, the 2024 Republican presidential nominee, maintains his innocence and accuses James of politically motivated persecution.

James’s lawsuit is among the notable legal cases against Trump resolved before the November presidential election, alongside Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case involving hush money payments, where Trump was found guilty of falsifying business records.

Trump has pleaded not guilty and is appealing the felony conviction.
