Meet Maulana Dotch: The Trailblazing Black Woman PGA Member Named General Manager Of A Golf Facility

Maulana Dotch, a trailblazing figure in the world of golf, has achieved another historic milestone by becoming the first African American woman PGA Member to serve as a General Manager of a golf facility.

At 40 years old, Dotch was appointed as the General Manager of Hermann Park Golf Course in Houston, a position she officially assumed on Jan. 1, 2021.

Dotch’s journey in golf began at an early age when her father, Emmanuel Dotch, introduced her to the sport. Despite facing challenges due to being left-handed and lacking appropriate clubs, she persevered and honed her skills.

Her dedication and talent led her to compete on the Irving High School men’s golf team and eventually earn a golf scholarship to Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida, where she excelled both individually and as part of the team.

Following her collegiate career, Dotch embarked on a path in golf management, working tirelessly to learn all facets of the industry. She spent 12 years at Cedar Crest Golf Course in Dallas, serving as the PGA Head Professional since 2014, before making history with her appointment at Hermann Park Golf Course.

In her role at Hermann Park Golf Course, Dotch aims to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for golf enthusiasts, especially women and individuals from diverse backgrounds.

She emphasizes the importance of advocating for oneself and encourages aspiring professionals to pursue careers in the golf industry. Dotch’s achievements have not gone unnoticed within the golf community.

PGA President Jim Richerson commended her accomplishment, highlighting her as a role model for women and girls aspiring to join the PGA. Dotch’s commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in golf is further demonstrated through her participation in PGA LEAD, a leadership development program aimed at fostering diverse leadership within the Association.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Dotch remains grounded in her commitment to her family and community. She credits her father for instilling in her a love for the game and supporting her throughout her journey.
