In a deeply personal episode of her new podcast Confessions of a Female Founder, Meghan Markle reflected on the miscarriage she suffered nearly five years ago, opening up about grief, motherhood, and the strength it takes to carry on.

Speaking with guest Reshma Saujani — founder of Girls Who Code and CEO of Moms FirstMeghan, 43, turned the conversation toward the emotional toll of balancing personal loss with public performance. “I’ve spoken about the miscarriage that we experienced,” she said, referencing the heartbreak she and Prince Harry endured in July 2020. “When you have to learn to detach from the thing that you have so much promise and hope for… to be able to let something go that you planned to love for a long time.”

Meghan first shared her experience in a 2020 New York Times op-ed, where she described collapsing with “a sharp cramp” while holding her son Archie. “I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second,” she wrote at the time.

Saujani, 49, praised Meghan’s words as “really insightful,” noting how they mirrored her own struggles with a “path of serial miscarriages.” She added that Meghan’s framing helped her reprocess her experience in a new, healing light.

The pair also bonded over the challenges of modern motherhood. “I love being a mom so much. It’s my favorite thing,” Meghan said, admitting she finds it difficult to be away from her children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3. “It’s the parenting paradigm… I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

Meghan also reflected on her postpartum experience, revealing that she and past guest Whitney Wolfe Herd both battled postpartum preeclampsia — a rare and serious condition. “You’re still trying to show up for people — mostly for your children — but those things are huge medical scares,” she said.

Confessions of a Female Founder explores Meghan’s entrepreneurial journey with her new lifestyle brand, As Ever, while highlighting stories of resilience and leadership from other women in business.
