Eleven-year-old North West, daughter of reality star and entrepreneur Kim Kardashian, is once again in the public spotlight – this time for attending the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival over the weekend, seemingly without parental supervision.
A now-viral TikTok video of North showing off her Day 2 Coachella outfit – a grey hoodie, plaid miniskirt, black shorts, and a $2,383 Balenciaga bag – has ignited an online firestorm. North, who completed her look with a full face of makeup, captioned the post simply: “Coachella day 2.”
While the annual music festival is open to all ages, critics were quick to question the appropriateness of a child attending such an event — especially without her mother present. Online commentators slammed Kardashian for allowing North to attend, citing concerns about maturity, internet exposure, and the glamorization of adult aesthetics.
“Does anyone find it weird that 11-year-old North West is at Coachella?” asked one Reddit user, in a now-deleted thread. Another added, “She’s too young to be dressing and putting makeup on like that… I wonder what goes on in Kim’s head when she indirectly lets her daughter act and look like an adult.”
The backlash is not unfamiliar territory for Kardashian, who has faced repeated scrutiny over North’s public presence and style choices. Just months ago, she was criticized for sharing a video of North playing dress-up in oversized jewelry, faux lip piercings, and bold poses. While many fans applauded North’s creative flair, others raised red flags about age-appropriate boundaries.
Meanwhile, other members of the Kardashian-Jenner family were out in full force at Coachella. Sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner were seen promoting their respective alcohol brands, 818 Tequila and Sprinter. Kylie’s 7-year-old daughter Stormi was also in attendance, spotted dancing on the shoulders of family friend Fai Khadra during Travis Scott’s performance.
Unlike North, Stormi was confirmed to be closely supervised by both her mother and aunt Kendall, who were backstage during Scott’s headlining set.
Kardashian herself was noticeably absent from the festivities, although she’s been busy on the personal front. In a recent episode of The Kardashians, the SKIMS mogul hinted she’s open to a fourth marriage and is currently “secretly dating.”
Having previously been married to Damon Thomas, Kris Humphries, and Kanye West, Kim mused about her future: “I wonder what my next ring shape will be? For my last and final hurrah.”

As for North, it’s clear that growing up in the limelight comes with both admiration and critique. Whether her Coachella appearance was a fashion statement or a flashpoint, it has reignited the debate over celebrity parenting, social media, and age-appropriate exposure.
While Kim has not publicly responded to the controversy, North’s increasing independence and high-profile appearances continue to raise questions about what it means to grow up Kardashian in the digital age.
