In a compelling video message shared on Instagram, Tashara Parker, a 5x Emmy Award-winning journalist delivered a pointed reminder about protecting emotional boundaries and recognizing toxic patterns in relationships.
The viral clip has resonated with thousands, striking a chord with her followers.
“Stay away from people who have stories for days and they’re the victim in every single one of them,” Parker warns in the opening lines of her video.
Known for her bold voice on culture, identity, and representation, Parker used her platform to address what she calls a harmful cycle of chronic victimhood—and the toll it can take on those within its orbit.
“Every job they left was somebody else’s fault. Every friendship that ended, they were done wrong. Every opportunity missed, somebody was hating,” she said, calling out a common pattern of blaming others while failing to take accountability.
While Parker, who is also Principal Storyteller at LOUD Women Lead Media Co., pointed out the importance of grace and empathy, and cautioned against being drawn into someone else’s ongoing cycle of negativity.
“What starts as venting can quickly become a pattern, a cycle, a mindset. And if you’re not careful, it’ll drain you… it’ll make you doubt people you’ve never met and it’ll pull you into battles that ain’t even yours,” she explained.
Her advice was as empowering as it was necessary:
“Protect your spirit, cousin. Not everyone needs a front row seat to your journey. We’re too grown, we’re too gifted, and we’re too loud to be wrapped up in a cycle that doesn’t serve us.”
Parker’s message is part of a larger mission she continues to lead through LOUD Women Lead Media Co., where she focuses on amplifying voices and stories that inspire authenticity and power, particularly among Black women.
Her message reminds us that self-preservation is not selfish—it’s essential.
