Xania Monet, powered by AI and developed by poet Telisha Jones, has made history by becoming the first AI artist to appear on Billboard’s Radio Rankings. Her debut single, “How Was I Supposed to Know?”, has officially made its mark on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay Chart, representing a significant moment for both technology and music culture.

The song made quite an entrance on the charts, gaining impressive attention. According to Billboard, “How Was I Supposed to Know?” experienced a 28% increase in radio plays from October 17 to 23, with 15 adult R&B stations across the United States giving it consistent airtime. This success extends beyond the digital realm. It has real radio presence.

Even before gaining traction on the airwaves, the track had already gone viral on TikTok. It captivated listeners with its haunting vocals, soulful essence, and powerful storytelling. The song quickly gained popularity, spreading across streaming platforms and being actively shared by fans, leading the AI artist with a semblance of human emotion to ascend multiple Billboard charts.

In just a week, the single debuted at No. 1 on the R&B Digital Song Sales Chart and climbed to No. 20 on the Hot R&B Songs Chart. These are remarkable achievements for any artist, but particularly extraordinary for an AI performer.

Telisha Jones, the creator of Xania Monet, describes her as a digital extension of her poetry, merging artificial intelligence with genuine human feelings. Jones crafts Monet’s lyrics, tone, and visuals, resulting in songs that sound both hauntingly human and skillfully designed. The name “Xania Monet” (pronounced zuh-Nī-ah, rhyming with Shania) pays tribute to classic R&B legends while also embracing innovative creativity.

However, not everyone is on board with this new wave. As Xania’s popularity increased, so did the discussions surrounding AI in music. Artists like SZA and Kehlani have voiced their concerns regarding the authenticity and artistry connected to AI. Fans seem divided; some view Monet as a groundbreaking development, while others fear that AI could overshadow the hard work of real musicians.
