Karen Silva, the incredibly talented 17-year-old who wowed audiences as a semi-finalist on “The Voice Kids” in Brazil, has tragically passed away. News broke that the young singer died following a hemorrhagic stroke, leaving behind a void in the hearts of her fans and loved ones.
According to the American Heart Association, hemorrhagic strokes make up only about 13% of all strokes, yet they’re often the deadliest. Tragically, that rare nightmare just became real for one of Brazil’s rising young stars.
The young singer passed away at approximately 5 am on Thursday morning after spending several days in the intensive care unit at São João Batista Hospital.
Her death was caused by bleeding in the brain due to a ruptured blood vessel.
Karen started her singing lessons at age eight, eventually performing the well-known song Oh Happy Day by Edward Hawkins. In 2020, she participated in a singing competition in Brazil.
A heartwrenching message posted on her Instagram stated:
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of the young singer Karen Silva, aged 17, which occurred after days of hospitalization at São João Batista Hospital in Volta Redonda as a result of a hemorrhagic stroke. Karen enchanted Brazil with her powerful voice and striking presence even in childhood, when she participated in The Voice Kids in 2020. Since then, he has followed a luminous path, uniting talent, charisma, and representation at every step. More than an up-and-coming artist, Karen was a symbol of empowerment, especially for Black girls who found in her inspiration and strength to dream. Her music, her message, and her joy leave a deep mark on all who met her and followed her journey. In this moment of great pain, we send our solidarity to their parents, Manoella and Fernando, with friends, family and fans.
“May the memory of your light continue to guide us.”
The emotional homage to the singer followed a statement released on Monday indicating that Karen was “dealing with a health issue.”
