Former The Voice Kids star Karen Silva has tragically passed away at the age of 17 following a hemorrhagic stroke, her family confirmed Thursday, April 24, 2025.

Silva, who rose to fame after reaching the semi-finals of The Voice Kids Brazil in 2020 at just 12 years old, died after being hospitalized at São João Batista Hospital in Volta Redonda. Her death was announced in a heartfelt statement shared on her official Instagram page.

“Karen enchanted Brazil with her powerful voice and striking presence even in childhood, when she participated in The Voice Kids in 2020,” the post read. “Since then, she has followed a luminous path, uniting talent, charisma and representation at every step.”

The tribute went on to honor Silva not just for her musical talent but also for her role as an inspirational figure:

“More than an up-and-coming artist, Karen was a symbol of empowerment, especially for Black girls who found in her inspiration and strength to dream. Her music, her message and her joy leave a deep mark on all who met her and followed her journey.”

The statement, originally written in Portuguese and translated into English, concluded with condolences to her parents, Manoella and Fernando, and all who were touched by her life:

“In this moment of great pain, we send our solidarity to their parents, Manoella and Fernando, with friends, family and fans. May the memory of your light continue to guide us.”

Karen’s passing came just days after her team shared a post on April 21 detailing her health challenges. That message informed fans that Silva was facing a serious health issue and was under medical care, while asking for prayers, respect, and privacy during her recovery.

Silva’s musical journey began at age 8 when she started vocal lessons, inspired by a desire to sing the Edwin Hawkins Singers’ classic 1967 arrangement of “Oh Happy Day.”

According to her first vocal coach, Lana Netto, Karen’s extraordinary voice was apparent from her very first lessons.

“After just a few lessons, she sang the song and enchanted everyone with her striking voice,” Netto told The Daily Mail. “From that day on, Karen never stopped singing and captivating people.”

Karen Silva is survived by her parents, Manoella and Fernando, as well as countless fans who admired her talent, resilience, and spirit.
