In a love story that proves life can be stranger and more wonderful than any script, Sherron Sloss-Lewis and Patricia Lynn Lewis have a past that makes people do a double-take.

Both were previously married to men. Both went through divorces. And, as fate would have it, they both briefly dated the same person before finding a forever love—with each other.

“When people hear this story, they say, ‘This was meant to be, because this is insane,’” Sherron told TODAY.com.

Sherron, a twice-divorced mom of three from Nashville, decided in 2014 that she was ready for love, but on a new, open-minded terms.

“I was straight my entire life. I had never been attracted to women,” she recounted. “But after two divorces from men, I made the decision that I was going to be open to love, however that looked.”

That open-mindedness led her to Match.com, where she was immediately struck by Patricia’s profile. The attraction was mutual—Patricia’s first thought was, “Oh, she’s super fine.” But the connection went deeper than a simple swipe. Patricia realized she recognized Sherron through a mutual friend. That friend turned out to be an ex-boyfriend they had both, independently, dated.

“Initially, I think we both thought that if we’d dated the same person, then this couldn’t possibly work. It was too weird,” Sherron said. But a single three-hour phone call, filled with easy conversation and laughter, erased all doubt.

A long-distance relationship between Nashville and Maryland soon blossomed.

An Unconventional Path to a Traditional Truth

Sherron’s journey was not without its internal struggles. A Nashville native raised in the church, she grappled with her faith as she explored her identity.

“I didn’t know if what I was doing was going to be pleasing to God,” she said. It was a conversation with her minister that helped her find peace, a poignant reminder that the search for acceptance often begins within.

After a year, Sherron followed her gut—and a pre-purchased anniversary card she had hidden under her mattress after their first weekend together—and moved with her daughter to Maryland. They married in 2017 in a “magical” ceremony where their sons walked them down the aisle.

Now an influencer sharing her life and fashion tips, Sherron has been met with an outpouring of support after posting about her wife, though not without the occasional troll. She deftly counters narratives about being “in the closet” or wasting their lives, noting they have four children between them.

The core of their story, however, isn’t the unusual setup; it’s the profound partnership that resulted. For Sherron, the difference is night and day.

“We are a true partnership,” she explains. “We’re great communicators… In my previous marriages, communication was a problem.”

Their story is a powerful testament to the idea that love isn’t always about who you expect, but about who you become with the right person. It’s a narrative that challenges rigid life scripts and celebrates the beautiful, unpredictable detours that lead us home.

“I never thought my life would pan out this way,” Sherron said. “But, as for me, I’m glad I’m exactly where I am.”
