Latto is giving “Big Energy” this holiday season, leading her to win a key to the city and an official day in her hometown of an Atlanta suburb.
The 28-year-old rapper donated hundreds of Christmas gifts to more than 500 families with items including turkeys, TVs, bikes, toy cars and to residents of Rex, Georgia, where she was raised.
In return, former Georgia State Representative Stacy Abrams presented her with the key, in addition to announcing that December 18 would officially be Latto Day. She was awarded the key for her warm form of generosity and philanthropy.
“I feel like I owe my success to Clayco, so this means so much to me,” Latto said at an event in her honor. “I’m committed to using my platform to create opportunities for the next generation of Clayton County youth.”
The donations were made at Clayton County’s “Christmas In Clayco” event, at the Carl Rhodenizer Recreation Center. Clayton County commissioner Alieka Anderson and Chair of the Clayton County Board Of Education Jessie Goree attended the event along with Abrams, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“Latto is the epitome of greatness here in Clayton County,” Clayton County commissioner Alieka Anderson said at the event. “Our kids love her, the commissioners love her, and this is a collaboration that has been great for the community and for the children in Clayton County Public Schools. I want them to see the spirit of giving. When you give, it reciprocates back to you. What we tell our kids in Clayton County is that you can go and be anything you want to be, and Latto is a great example of that.”
Born Alyssa Michelle Stephens, Latto first rose to fame during an appearance on Jermaine Dupri’s reality television series The Rap Game, where she won the show’s first season in 2016. She went on to release B*tch from da Souf and signed to RCA Records. The song clinched a spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in August 2020 and led to the follow-up single Muwop, featuring Gucci Mane.
