Cardi B recently voiced her concerns and frustration about the recent budget cuts in New York City, particularly those affecting essential services such as the New York Police Department, Fire Department of NY, public schools, sanitation, and libraries.
The Grammy-winning artist, known for her outspoken nature, forcely expressed her worries during a livestream on social media.
Hailing from the Bronx, Cardi B passionately questioned the impact of these budget cuts on her family and community, emphasizing her connection to the neighborhood.
The cuts, announced on November 16, were attributed to challenges linked to the migrant crisis, and Mayor Eric Adams defended them as necessary. The city had already allocated significant funds to address the ongoing issue, with projections indicating substantial expenditures in the coming years.
Cardi B, visibly upset, used strong language to convey her discontent with the budget cuts, particularly highlighting the $120 million reduction affecting schools, libraries, and the police department.
Despite her disapproval of law enforcement, she underscored the broader implications of the cuts on essential services. Additionally, she expressed concern about a $5 million budget cut in sanitation, predicting potential consequences for the city’s cleanliness and an increase in rodent-related issues.
The artist, who previously supported Bernie Sanders, took aim at political leaders, criticizing President Joe Biden for allocating funds to wars while claiming insufficient resources for domestic concerns. She asserted that the nation is facing challenging times and questioned its purported greatness.
Throughout the livestream, Cardi B continued to express worry for families in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods, foreseeing potential negative outcomes such as increased rodent problems and rising crime rates.
“In New York, there is a $120 million budget cut that’s going to affect schools, public libraries, and the police department — y’all know I don’t give a f**k about the cops, but it is what it is. There’s gonna be a $120 million budget cuts, with schools, with libraries, and the cops… And a $5 million budget cut in sanitation. B—ch, we are gonna be drowning in f—king rats,” she said at some point in the livestream.
Despite acknowledging that these decisions might not directly impact her, she passionately advocated for the well-being of her relatives and community members who are less fortunate.
She has received quite an applause on social media for her blunt views.
“Today I have more respect for Cardi B than the mayor of NYC. Strange times,” someone tweeted.
“You know you’re shady when Cardi B shames you,” another said.
Another person also remarked:
“Black communities have 2 choices. Vote Democrat, get no law enforcement or vote Republican and get Stop and Frisk. There’s no 3rd choice.”
