Rosalind “Roz” Brewer, former CEO of Walgreens Boots Alliance, has taken on a new role as a member of the Board of Directors for the Black Economic Alliance (BEA), an organization dedicated to advancing financial opportunities within the Black community.
In a statement confirming her appointment, Brewer highlighted BEA’s mission to bolster Black economic power and prosperity.
Drawing from her extensive leadership experience, which includes prominent positions at Starbucks Coffee Company and Walmart, Brewer expressed enthusiasm for contributing to BEA’s initiatives.
“I understand first-hand the inextricable link between Black economic advancement and the growth of the entire American economy. I am honored and excited to work with BEA’s Board and leadership and lend my expertise to BEA’s next phase of impact,” she stated.
Despite her departure from Walgreens in September 2023, where she made history as the third Black woman to lead a Fortune 500 company, Brewer brings a wealth of business acumen to her new role.
Notably, during her tenure at Starbucks, she oversaw the implementation of racial bias training across thousands of store locations.
Samantha Tweedy, CEO of BEA, welcomed Brewer’s addition to the board, citing her track record of breaking down barriers to Black economic advancement.
Tweedy expressed confidence in Brewer’s ability to further BEA’s goals of enhancing Black work, wages, and wealth.
In addition to her responsibilities with BEA, Brewer serves on the boards of United Airlines and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African-American History and Culture.
Her appointment to the BEA board underscores her commitment to fostering unity and progress among Black business leaders.
