Noelia Voigt, who was crowned Miss USA on Sept. 29, 2023, in Reno Tahoe, has announced her decision to relinquish her title in order to prioritize her mental health.
Taking to Instagram on Monday, Voigt shared a heartfelt statement explaining her choice to step down from the prestigious role.
In her statement, Voigt expressed gratitude for her journey as Miss USA, representing Utah and later the USA at the Miss Universe pageant held in November. However, she revealed that the decision to resign from the title was a difficult one.
“Never could I have imagined the journey that my childhood dream would take me on,” she wrote. “Constant and consistent hard work and dedication all lead me to where I am today.”
In her statement, Voigt, a Venezuelan-American, also spoke about the importance of prioritizing mental health and advocated for self-advocacy and resilience in the face of uncertainty.
She acknowledged that her resignation might come as a shock to many but urged readers to prioritize their physical and mental well-being.
Following Voigt’s resignation, Miss USA’s website described her as a transformational leader with a passion for interior design and a commitment to giving back to families in need.
The organization also praised her efforts in raising awareness about dating violence prevention.
In response to Voigt’s decision, a spokesperson for Miss USA stated:
“We respect and support former Miss USA Noelia Voigt’s decision to step down from her duties. The well-being of our titleholders is a top priority, and we understand her need to prioritize herself at this time.”
The organization is currently reviewing plans for the transition of responsibilities to a successor, with an announcement regarding the crowning of the new Miss USA expected soon.
